The dust has settled and we have had some time to reflect on the overall experience of the latest Long Beach Comic Con. I always enjoy doing the Long Beach shows cuz that’s my hometown and I try to support all things LB. Having everything so close is just a big plus.
But from past experience, these spring and fall shows seem to be different from some of the bigger, older shows I have sold at. For reasons that escape me, the Long Beach crowd, in general, JUST DOES NOT SEEM TO WANT TO PART WITH ANY OF THEIR MONEY! Lotta looking, lotta questions, lotta promises of coming back(= goodbye, I will never ever see you again in my lifetime!) When I first noticed this trend, I thought that maybe it was just us, that perhaps we had the wrong product for this crowd. But after talking with other vendors, I found that I wasn’t alone. And this trend was not just one show, but continually, show after show. So many times I have heard other exhibitors say that they were done with Long Beach. I’d thought it a few times too… the spring show was possibly our worst show ever.
So, with all that being said, this latest show went really, really well! Large crowd, right from the start and it stayed that way all weekend. (My guess is that attendance might have something to do with the celebrities they can snag for each show. Nathan Fillion… I thank you!) Lots of sales of lots of different stuff. And, lo and behold, we even had a few people that said they had to look around first, who actually came back later to buy stuff. Hopefully this trend will continue cuz I really like doing the Long Beach shows! Here’s to the spring show!
